Today more and more employers are conducting background check on their potential employees. Most of the time job seekers are worried about this kind of investigation because there might appear information that is not related to them.

Most of time companies do not conduct criminal background check on their employees unless they are law enforcement. And we all know that it is illegal to ask a candidate whether or not they have ever been arrested. But they are allowed to ask if they have ever been convicted of a specific crime if it is related to the job that they are applying.

A good example of this is if an applicant is applying to be a janitor to a school. Of course no school will accept a janitor that has been convicted as sexual offender. Another one is if an applicant applying to a store as product stockers definitely the store owner will not accept that applicant if he has been convicted as a shoplifter.

As an applicant you have to consider the criminal background that you have. You have to study the company that you are applying at and consider ahead of time whether you convictions are related to the job that you are applying. If so, you have to be prepared to answer to the question about it. If not then be prepare for the respond that you are going to say.

An employment background check is a common part of the screening because this can be the strongest proof about the candidate future performance. This type of investigation usually consists of calling the previous employer of the potential employee. Once you left a company with a bad record you have to get worry on the effect of this to your personality. This is not a good idea of including it to your resume as part of your work experience. And one thing more is that if the applicant indicates a work experience that he or she has never been a part of that company but still the applicant claim to have worked there. This is typically called for immediate rejection of the applicant.

The employment background check is very important in screening because it is an easy way to detect a candidate is lying about their history. Actually the employer does the calling of the past employers that is listed just to confirm if the applicant is actually worked there. Dishonesty can leave the employer disgusted and it can start of a bad relationship so it is better to be honest in presenting all of your credentials.
